A custom and attractive label on your candy or confections products can help your product stand out among the crowd and be more visible to potential customers.

Considerations and Conditions for Candy and Confections Labeling

Candy and Confections labels have to adhere securely under different and often challenging conditions. They must stick to plastic, glass, or other materials, which may be wet, frozen, refrigerated, environments. Handling, product material, temperature conditions, humidity, and product shape affect performance. Your label needs to remain attractive regardless of where it is used. Below we go over some common considerations when it comes to labeling candy and confections.

The temperature the product will be stored at

Will it be refrigerated, room temperature, or frozen? Will there be moisture in the environment? Specialized labels with different adhesives are used for refrigerated and frozen item. Labels on refrigerated or frozen products such as cakes may also experience more moisture than labels on products at room temperature. A water-resistant label may be necessary to make sure that your label stays attractive and readable.

How stable your prices are or how often you produce the same confections

Depending on how often your prices fluctuate or how often you produce the exact same product, you may want a label that you are able to write on so that you are not stuck with the wrong information on your labels, such as quantity, product name, or price. You may even want separate labels for your prices.

One great option for this is to create custom printable product labels. This way, when you have a price change you can quickly print out price labels to put on top of your product label or package.

Single or multi-piece labels

Depending on the packaging of your product, you may want to have multiple labels on a single package.

For example, if you sell cookies, you may individually wrap them in plastic wrap. With a product such as this, having one label on the front and one on the back may be the best option. Most of our candy and confections label customers tend to want one attractive label with their logo and product name on the front, and another label on the back of their packaging with nutritional information and the bar code. For Example, Sweet Loraine’s used a two-piece label for their butter cookies. The image you see for their Butter Cookies is what a customer sees on the front of their packaging, but they also have a nutritional label and UPC code on a label on the other side of their packaging. This makes their product look more attractive and stand out compared to a product that may put all of their information on one label. However, Sweet Margy Dark Chocolate had a package that allowed for a single-piece wrap around label.

The label surface

We have seen Candy and Confections labels go on boxes, plastic lids on cake packaging, on shrink wrap, on waxed paper bags, and on Glass or Metal Candy Jars. Depending on what surface you plan to affix your label, you may want a different type of label backing and/or adhesive to best affix the label to the label surface.

Shape of the product and label

Labels that wrap around package corners may require a different adhesive and a flexible base material compared to labels that only attach to one side of a product. They may also require a different cut such as a pie shaped labels for cone shaped products. To attract the attention of prospective customers, you may want your label to stand out with a unique shape. Some bakers, such as Sweet Loraine’s, decide to use their logo as their label shape. Little Miss Muffin decided to use a triangular label to better fit their product packaging. No matter what shape you want your label, Master Tape Printers can make it. We have thousands of die cut shapes available and can create custom shapes based on your specifications.

Make your label stand out with material choices

There are many ways that you could make your label catch the eye of potential customers. You could add a silver or metallic gold finish on your label to have it catch just the right amount of light to pop compared to the products around it. Eye catching bright colors and a gloss or matte finish are other options that may help your product. If your product is going to be in a highly lit and glare-prone area of a store, you may want to go with a matte finish over a glossy finish to help with readability. Certain parts of your label, such as your logo, could incorporate a glossy or metallic finish to help your product stand out whereas the rest of your label could be matte for a clean presentation.

No matter which of these conditions or considerations are present, the customer, retailer, and manufacturer will need to know that the label will stay affixed, the UPC code scans properly, and the nutrition labels will carry all of the required information.

Master Tape Printers can meet any of your Candy and Confection label printing needs and ensure that they communicate effectively, stand out, and adhere to the product.
